Severine, a young bourgeois woman living a seemingly perfect life in Paris, hides an inner world full of fantasies and unexpected desires. When she discovers a secret brothel, she decides to work there in the afternoons under the pseudonym "Belle de Jour".
Luis Buñuel, one of the leading surrealist directors, uses his characteristic style, combining reality with the dreamy and the unconscious. Catherine Deneuve, in the role of Severine, offers an impressive performance, conveying the complexity and vulnerability of her character. The film stands out for its bold depiction of sexuality and its ability to provoke thought without resorting to explicit obscenity.
"Belle de Jour" received a positive reception from critics and audiences, winning the Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival in 1967. It is considered a classic for its originality and influence, which is evident in many contemporary directors. It remains a point of reference in 20th-century cinema.
