"Pyrsos" Filiatra Educational Association
The "Pyrsos" Filiatra Educational Association was founded in 1958 by a small group of restless young people in the city, and the pioneer was Kostas Spanos. The "Pyrsos" (Association) and the first library of the Association were inaugurated on February 1st, 1959. They were housed on the ground floor of the Markoulias house (today's "The Water Lily" flower shop). The Association is housed in a privately owned building at the "Fournarakeio Spiritual Centre", which was a donation of the late expatriate benefactor, Charalambos Fournarakis.
Since 1990, the "Pyrsos" Filiatra Educational Association has been teaching traditional and folk dance classes for children and adults, as well as Argentine tango classes.
The Association stands out for its rich cultural activity, and every year, it carries out a series of events and activities, such as theatre and dance performances, lectures, speeches, educational trips, book presentations, etc.
