Municipality of Trifylia
The Municipality of Trifylia, based in Kyparissia, consists of the former municipalities: a. Aetos, b. Avlona, c. Gargaliani, d. Kyparissia, e. Filiatra and the community of Tripila, which have been abolished.
The area of the new Municipality is 612.12 sq. km. Its population is 27,926 inhabitants, according to the Census of 2011. The seat of the Municipality was designated Kyparissia. The Municipality corresponds to the most significant part of the older Trifylia Province.
The area of the Municipality is characterised by a diversity of terrain as the four of the Municipal Units that make it up are described as lowland and two as mountainous. A large area is occupied by the fertile and productive Trifylia plain, which, combined with the excellent climatic conditions that prevail in the Municipality (Mediterranean climate), gives the area a significant advantage in the primary sector.
The natural beauties of the mountain massif, the Isle of Proti, the accessible coasts and beaches of the Kyparissia gulf, the traditional settlements and the archaeological sites of great importance compose an impressive scene that substantially contributes to the economic development of the Municipality, as reflected in the tertiary sector.
