The small village of Stasio is amphitheatrically built at the foot of Mount Geranio (on the slopes of the Agiannis gorge), at an altitude of 160 meters. It is located 4 km southeast of Kyparissia and 15 km northeast of Filiatra. The village has about 240 permanent residents. It was formerly known as Stasiko or Staso. According to local tradition, Stasio got its name from the stop (stasi) made by the pilgrims (due to the existence of a spring), who wanted to visit the church of the Transfiguration of the Savior in the neighbouring village of Christianoupolis.
The village was initially built about 1.5 km to the east (under the name of Agios Ioannis), while it was moved to its current location around 1840. It is referred to in various censuses of the Venetian Republic, which were made during a period of thirty years (1683 / 84- 1715).
At the village entrance, the visitor can see the temple of the Greatest Brigadiers. The church celebrates on November 8th, while there is no information on the year of its construction. It is a rectangular temple built of stone. The church entrance has carved cornerstones and an iconostasis, while above the left side door (in the stone arch), the carving of the year 1858 stands out. After the war, the bell tower was erected with two bells and a mixed three-storey construction.
Scattered on Mount Geranio are the picturesque chapels of Agios Athanasios, Agios Nikolaos, Agia Varvara and Profitis (Prophet) Ilias. The chapel of Agios Ioannis stands out, which celebrates on June 24th. Next to the church, there is an old bell dating from 1880, hanging on a plane tree. The church of Agios Ioannis is even older, as according to historical sources, its construction began in 1650. Since then, the church has been renovated several times.
Every year, in the second fortnight of August, the Cultural Association, “Geranium", organises the "Oregano Festival", where free chicken cooked with oregano is offered to the crowds. Finally, in recent years the village has experienced significant residential development with luxurious holiday homes.
