Trisagio (holy ceremony) in memory of chieftain Dimitrios Papatsonis

The Municipality of Messina will hold a trisagio (holy ceremony) in memory of chieftain Dimitrios Papatsoni on Saturday, June 22nd, at 7:30 p.m. in front of his bust located at the entrance of Eva. With this event, the Municipality honours the hero who fought for the homeland's liberation, winning many victorious battles until his death in Trikorfa in June 1825.
Chieftain Dimitrios Papatsonis came from an old family of elites and fighters of the Revolution of 1821, which had settled in Naziri, today's Community of Eva. He played an essential role in the liberation of Kalamata on March 23rd, 1821, fought many victorious battles, won praise for his heroism, and was imprisoned and killed at the Battle of Trikorfo in June 1825 at the age of 27.
The programme of the event:
Trisagio in front of the bust of Oplarch Dimitrios Papatsonis and laying of wreaths.
Afterwards, the participants will go to the forecourt of Eva Primary School, where they will be greeted by the Mayor of Messina, George Athanasopoulos, and representatives of the Parliament, the district and the Papatsoni family. Primary Education teacher Giorgos Argiroiliopoulos will deliver the day's eulogy entitled "The life and sacrifice of Oplarhigos Dimitrios Papatsonis."
Afterwards, a minute's silence will be observed in memory of the hero, the National Anthem will be played, and student Aggelos Nikolopoulos will recite a poem. Traditional dances from the Municipal Dance Club of Messina and the Cultural-Scenic Association of Messina will follow.
The Municipal Philharmonic of Messina will also participate in the event.
During the event, an "Exhibition of Weapons and Historical Relics of the 1821 Revolution" from Spyros Katsiras' collection and the Hellinomnimones association will be held in the courtyard of Eva Primary School.
