In Laconian Mani, you can find everything: beautiful beaches, mountain villages, archaeological sites... abandoned settlements and one of the most beautiful Capes, Tainaro. It is the southernmost tip of Europe, while for the ancient Greeks, it was the crossing point for the Underworld.
The path to the lighthouse of Tainaro starts at the end of the Areopolis - Tainaro road, after a short stop at an ancient settlement with mosaics. The route on dry rocks, smells of thyme, oregano and, between the blue sky and the Messenian and Laconian Gulfs... the lighthouse, a 16-metre square tower built by the French in 1882, is easy.
A short stop in the beautiful abandoned settlement of Vathia with its stone tower houses, bougainvillaea and sea views is also planned.
Difficulty level: A (good physical condition required!)
Running time: 3+/- hours
Necessary equipment: backpack, first aid kit, hiking shoes, sports clothes, water, snacks, hat, baton.
