Messinian Travelers-Hiking along the Lagadiotissa Gorge
A path through unimaginable natural beauty and, at the same time, the "wildness" that Taygetos hides. Starting from Parori, located in Laconia, the group of Messinian Travelers will follow a mountain route through magical steps and churches with a view of the plain that literally takes your breath away.
This is a beautiful trail! It is uphill, but as you catch your breath and pause at certain turns, the view towards the green, fertile plain and the Laconian capital, Sparta, becomes breathtaking. Ivies that elaborately dress the trunks of other trees, mushrooms, white crocuses and large webs of spiders that have woven magnificent embroideries catch the eye. After the first church, the Faneromeni Monastery, you will see the cross atop a small hill. There, it is said that the believer found the icon of the Virgin Mary, which is why he built the Monastery at that point. Your ears will not laugh at you. Gurgling water will be heard as you descend and approach the Saviour's chapel, where the group will make its next stop. Southeastern Taygetos radiates power, beauty, and majesty wherever you turn. Smaller and larger caves, some like eyes, sensor the mountain to record the mundane, our movements, the trees and other creatures. The wooden hanging boxes you will meet along the way are beehives. As part of the Greek-German youth programme be(e) wild & free, nests for wild bees, which are threatened with extinction, were hung along the E4 route in November 2017. Deadwood and plant stems are the building materials for these bees.
