KAIMAKTSALAN NORTH PEAK 2.524 - POZAR BATHS-KOUNOUPITSA CANYON
With its highest peak reaching 2,524m, Mount Kaimaktsalan (White Korfi) or Vorras, occupies the third position in altitude after Olympus and Smolikas. The largest part of the mountain belongs to the prefecture of Pella, while further north and behind the peak of Prophet Ilias, it extends beyond the Greek borders towards FYROM. The peaks that exceed 2,000m are to the right of Prophet Elias and to the east.
It is more widely known for its ski resort, the many waters flowing down its slopes, and the dense forests of beech, pine and fir, which offer shelter to wildlife. The Black Forest above the village of Panagitsa is famous for its protected five-pointed pine. Dense forests are also found in the west, around the village of Agios Athanasios, where the peaks are lower. Apart from the famous ski resort, many visitors are welcomed by the thermal baths of Pozar, at the end of the Nikolaos gorge, outside the village of Loutraki.
