The 10th Peloponnese Documentary Festival presents the comics exhibition "Sketchtowns." Greek cartoonists depict the cities that inspire them, creating a unique audio-visual experience on the occasion of the festival's 10th anniversary.
The exhibition will be hosted at the Kalamata Cultural Centre from Monday, November 18th, until Thursday, December 5th. Its inauguration will take place on Monday, November 18th, at 7 p.m.
The 10th Peloponnese International Documentary Festival, as part of its celebration of ten years of creative career, invited Greek cartoonists to create comics based on this year's theme: "Cities of the world (the city I loved, the city I live, the city I was born in, the city of my dreams)." The exhibition is entitled "Sketchtowns." It was edited by Yannis Antonopoulos.
Comic book art is a unique art form that combines images and text to tell a variety of – succinct – stories, which often take on special cultural significance. Comics can express a wide range of emotions and themes, from satire to dramatic storytelling and fantasy adventure. The history of comics proves that the city as a theme has repeatedly piqued the interest of creators: Blade Runner 2019 focuses on the social inequalities of modern towns, Transmetropolitan presents the life of a journalist in a dystopian city of the future, Gotham Central describes the challenges faced by the police in a city full of superheroes and villains, while City of Glass, illustrated in various publications, comments on life in New York giving philosophical implications.
Thirteen creators will participate in the exhibition: John Antono, Dimitris Georgopalis, Panos Zacharis, Petros Zervos, Sakis Koutsantas, Panagiotis Milas, Panagiotis Mitsombonos, Vassilis Papageorgiou, Konstantinos Rouggeris, Soloup, Ilias Tabakeas, Maria Tzamboura and Vangelis Cherouveim.
