The principal characters Dave and Eddie are out of work performers in Cromer, a typical and old-fashioned English seaside resort town at the end of the summer season. Dave is a double amputee dancer determined to keep his independence in spite of his disability, Eddie is a tough, aggressive character who believes in justice and respect. Through a series of scenes and dances Dave and Eddie encounter and interact with other people living on the fringes of society.
With few words and lots of movement, halfway between social commentary and filmed choreography, Lloyd Newson, the artistic director of the DV8 Physical Theatre, made this short film in 2004, which quickly made a name for itself and has won a number of awards. Blending contemporary dance and theatre, the film delivers a dynamic and subversive exploration of identity, disability, and social expectations with both sensitivity and sharp humour.
