Filmhouse/New Kalamata Cinema Club-THE PARTY
Spread the word
Filmhouse / New Cinema Club of Kalamata collaborates with the Municipality of Trifylia to show Blake Edwards' The Party, perhaps the wildest comedy ever filmed, on Kyparissia beach with free admission.
Due to a mix-up in the production assistants' lists, an unknown extra is invited to the highly invited Party of a major studio agent. With the help of a drunken waiter, a hysterical butler and an elephant, he manages to steal the show in the end, causing the ultimate chaos.
The Party is based on a simple story: throw an unrelated Indian uninvited into the Hollywood den, and you'll be drowned in soap operas, accompanied by a pseudo-psychedelic elephant. At the same time, it is one of the best, time-tested comedies of all time. Blake Edwards pays tribute to his beloved silent cinema, especially Jacques Tati, making a film that is just as funny even if it is shown without sound, full of moments of frenzied mayhem.
Of course, the visual jokes are based on the persona of the one and only Peter Sellers, an unhinged, clumsy, hapless, kind-hearted, shy shopkeeper who makes his way through a house, leaving behind moments that are forever etched in the world of cinema history, composing one of the best comedies ever made, irresistible even today to young and old alike.
