The Cultural Summer of the Municipality of Oichalia culminates with rich events

The Cultural Summer of the Municipality of Oichalia culminates and includes a series of events in the centre and the wider region. A prominent place, as every year, is the tradition with the Municipal Authority supporting the organisation of events that promote culture and keep the customs and traditions of the place alive. Especially expected during the full moon of August on the 19th is the concert at the archaeological site of Epicurius Apollon, "Ichon Topoi", where distinguished artists will mentally travel the audience on unique, musical paths. Sokratis Sinopoulos, Derya Türkan, Taxiarchis Georgoulis and Sofia Efklidou will present in an organic form works from Asia Minor, Cappadocia and Constantinople, works from the tradition of the Mevlevi dervishes and works that have as a reference point the oud and the lyre. Through dialogic improvisations, they interact and reconstruct the musical material with an emphasis on the affinities of the specific musical traditions, both at the level of morphology and style and, above all, at that of the spirituality and sanctity that imbues them.

As a small tribute, the Municipal Authority of Oichalia has a duty to organise an event dedicated to Maria Kallas every year in Neochori Ithomi, where the leading Greek opera singer came from. This event will take place on the evening of August 22nd, with Ioanna Kykna, Evangelos Mitkas and Georgios Tziatziafi hosting the public in a special evening on the paths of Lyrical Song.

With diversity at the centre in order to express itself to all the citizens and visitors of the broader area and to give them the opportunity to attend events of their liking, the Municipality of Oichalia, like every year, organises the concert "Rocking under the bridge V" which takes place at the historical bridge of Mavrozoumena, which is the oldest operating bridge in all of Europe. Five rock bands, on Friday, August 9th, at 21:00, promise lovers of this type of music a unique evening in an emblematic venue. The hard rockers Sebia, with the album "Acceptance of Reality" and many strong live performances under their belt, Stray Dogs and three bands formed by students of the Kalamata Music School, promise a unique night in the rhythms of rock music, with songs known and very loved. EN PSYCHRO, Spark of Fire and Surfing Black, who have been establishing themselves in recent years, have gained their own audience, enjoy their musical journeys and are ready to give one of Messenia's most unique summer concerts.

Also notable are the astronomy evenings, which will be organised for one more year, and of course, the 14th Andaneios Dromos Race 17 km, which connects the city of Ancient Messina with Diavolitsi, the seat of the Municipal Unit of Andania which has the honour of bearing the name of the ancient, sacred and first capital of the Messenians. At the same time, a race of 5,000 and 1,000 metres will be held, while there are also many cultural evenings of the Associations of several areas that give a unique colour to the summer evenings of the villages of the Municipality of Oichalia, as well as the Shadow Theatre performances specially dedicated to children.

The events with free admission to the public are all implemented or supported by the Municipality of Oichalia and other bodies, such as the Regional Union of Municipalities (PED), the Region of Peloponnese, the Captain Vassilis and Carmen Konstantakopoulos Foundation and the Ephorate of Antiquities of Ilia.
