The mountainous village of Pteri is built on the slopes of Mount Petraloni, at an altitude of 650 meters, overlooking the river Neda. It is 10 km from Sidirokastro and 28 km from Kyparissia. After the earthquakes of 1965, Pteri lost most of its inhabitants and today, there is only one inhabitant left who lives here. The oldest name of the village is Sklaveika, name which was taken from the first family that settled in the village in the 18th century, Dimos Sklavos’ family from Andritsaina.
At Pteri square, visitors can see the two wells and the three traditional stone threshing floors. Every year, the Cultural Association of the village performs a representation of the traditional threshing, thus keeping the tradition of the place alive. The village’s main church is the church of Agios Dimitrios, which was built around 1700. On the day of its celebration, a big festival takes place at the square.
