The mountain village of Vanada is built at an altitude of 528 metres and has approximately 40 permanent residents. It is only 1.5 kilometres from the village of Sidirokastro and 17.5 kilometres from Kalamata. The village was mentioned in 1853 in the second volume of “Greek” written by scholar Iakovos Rizos Ragavis.
In the village, visitors can wander through the alleys with the traditional houses and pay a visit to the church of the Holy Trinity. Every year, in Vanada, an event on the subject of the Messenian and Mediterranean diet is organised by the Municipality of Trifylia, the Union of Greek Physicists and the Federation of Associations, with the parallel participation of other organisations.
Finally, Sofia Fildisis (1937-2011), a children's books author and lyricist, came from the village.
