The picturesque village of Kefalovrysi is built at an altitude of 520 meters and has about 80 permanent residents. It is located between Avlona, Sitochori and Sidirokastro and is 7 km from Kopanaki.
Arvanites originally inhabited kefalovrysi at the end of the 14th century, and the name of the village, until 1927, was Ripesi. There are two versions of this name. In the first, it came from the “tsarouchia” (traditional men’s shoes) that a shepherd hung on a tree to "mark" the spot where he had found water. These “tsarouchia” (shoes) in Arvanitika are called "ripe". According to the second version, the first inhabitants of the village came from Ripesi of the Filiates of Epirus.
In the village, which is crossed by two ravines, visitors can see the stone two-storey mansions and the beautiful square with the cafes and the century-old plane tree planted in 1857 by Adam Porikos. The large stone-vaulted fountain with three taps is next to the plane tree. The fountain was built in 1905 and the village owes its name to it. Also, the church of Agios Nikolaos, built in 1853, is worth visiting.
Finally, the village is the birthplace of Georgios L. Petmezas (1915-1999), who was champion of the Greco-Roman wrestling and Olympian (6th place) in 1948 in London. In his honour, the villagers have erected a statue.
