Kyparissia Philharmonic Orchestra
The "Kyparissia Philharmonic Orchestra" was founded by the "Kyparissia Philharmonic Association." In 1984, the Municipality of Kyparissia took over its management, opening a new chapter in its history. Today, Chief Maestro Konstantinos Ktenas, who also composed its anthem in 1998, continues to conduct the Philharmonic successfully.
The "Philharmonic Orchestra of Kyparissia" presents vital work that actively contributes to the culture of Kyparissia, participating in festive events of the Municipality, national anniversaries, concerts for the "Cultural Summer," etc. It has performed in many Greek cities (Patra, Messolonghi, Amfissa, Filiatra, Pylos, etc.) while in August 2006, it participated with great success and distinction in the "5th Panhellenic Philharmonic Festival" of Skiathos. Also, in August 2008, it participated in the "Philharmonic Festival" in Romania in collaboration with the Skiathos Philharmonic.
The "Kyparissia Philharmonic Orchestra" has organised educational trips to the "Athens Concert Hall" (watching concerts with the "State Orchestra of Athens" and "Camerata", the "Symphonic Orchestra" of ERT and the "Symphonic Youth Band of Naka") and in Lefkada (watching a concert of "Historical Philharmonic Society of Lefkada" and guided tour of the band's building).
It is worth mentioning that the "Kyparissia Philharmonic Orchestra" is the only organisation that provides a very high level of free musical education in theory and instruments. The musical instruments taught are clarinet, flute, trumpet, genies, horn, saxophone, alto horn, euphonium, trombone, bass and percussion (drums, metallophone, drums). The Philharmonic provides the instruments and uniforms. The following sections also operate: children's choir, singers, traditional singing and the polyphonic choir ensemble "Idyfonon."
