Dimitris Platanias - Baritone
THE BARITONE WITH THE INTERNATIONAL CAREER
Dimitris Platanias was born on December 4th, 1970 in Kalamata. He received a guitar degree and a diploma in monody at the Municipal Conservatory of Kalamata. He continued his opera studies in Italy with Masako Tanaka Prodi ("Alexandra Triandis" Scholarship). He is one of the most significant barytones of our times with many, very important collaborations. His voice, as he has stated, is probably a legacy from his parents, who, although teachers by profession, were amateur choristers.
Dimitris Platanias has collaborated with numerous Greek and foreign orchestras. He first appeared on the National Opera Stage as Alfio and has since performed a multitude of roles. Indeed, his debut at the Royal Opera House in London with Rigoletto was considered triumphant, paving the way for his international career. He has appeared in major theaters and festivals worldwide, such as the Phoenix Venice Theater, the Sao Carlos Lisbon Theater, the Munich State Opera, the Stuttgart Opera House, and the Salzburg and Bregenz Festivals.
