Messinian Travellers-Walnut festival in Vamvakou
Spread the word
Everyone who joins Messinian Travellers on their trip to Vamvakou, on the slopes of Mount Parnon, will experience an excellent October...
A few kilometres from Sparta and Tripoli, a small picturesque village, Vamvakou, spreads. Its name comes from the medieval Greek word for cotton. It is a village with a long history, hidden in the forest, surrounded by fir, walnut and chestnut trees.
As you probably understand, the walnut tree is honoured on that day. In the village central square, a great feast awaits you with dancing and tsipouro, local product displays, always with the chestnut as the protagonist, but also walnuts, honey and oregano.
