Kallianeika is located at a higher altitude than Kitries and is 20 kilometres from Kalamata. It is a new village that was probably built in the 19th century. The village took its name from the Kallianis family, who were the first to settle in the area.
In Kallianeika, visitors can see the single-room, domed church of Agios Nikolaos that dates back to the 13th-14th centuries. The temple belongs to the cruciform roof type and is one of the earliest examples in Messenian Mani. The church was painted in 1785 by Pavlos Dimaggeleas and three other artisans.
At a distance of just 1.5 kilometres from Kallianeika, the privately owned Monastery of Prophet Ilias of the Roussakis family dominates the area. The monastery consists of a walled complex, which includes a small one-storey tower, and has been designated as a historic monument by the Ministry of Culture.
