The traditional village of Prosilio is amphitheatrically built, at an altitude of 360 metres, on a hillside with a beautiful view. It is 8 kilometres from Kardamyli, 30 kilometres from Kalamata and has approximately 200 permanent residents. Until 1956, the village was called Liasinova, and then it was renamed Prosilio. As its name suggests, it is sunny almost all year round and is known for its award-winning oil.
In the village, visitors can wander through the narrow cobbled streets with picturesque stone houses, while the Patriarcheas’ Tower dominates the central square. It is a narrow building of great height, made of local stones, mainly of defensive nature, which has been classified as a historic, preserved monument by the Ministry of Culture.
At a prominent position, the imposing church of Agios Georgios dominates the village’s highest point. The church was built in 1833 on the ruins of the older church of Agios Dimitrios, where a fresco of Taxiarchis is preserved. Also, the bell tower of Agios Georgios dates back to 1803.
