The official name is 'Drossopig',a traditional village with the seat of the municipality is Kardamili which belongs to the geographical Department of Peloponnese. During the administrative division of Greece with the plan “Kapodistrias”, until 2010, Drosopigi belonged to the local district of Sotirianika, the former municipality of AVIA in the prefecture of Messinia.
It took its name from the water source, located under the nearby Monastery of Agios Nikolaos. From here passes the famous paved path Biliovo, which leads to Altomira. It is located near Ridomo gorge.
