Tsiklitiras' House
The restored Tsiklitiras house, the house of Olympian Konstantinos Tsiklitiras, dominates the area of the centre, next to the City Hall, at the port of Pylos. The two-storey neoclassical building was built in 1860 and consists of an elevated ground floor and an orphanage. It has a C-shaped plan, with its main volume overlooking the sea. Konstantinos Tsiklitiras was born and lived there until he was 16 years old.
The house, which has been turned into a museum, houses the collection of the philhellene journalist Rene Puaux (1878-1937), who was transferred from the Maizonos Military Camp to Niokastro. The collection includes unique exhibits, such as lithographs, engravings, porcelain, metal objects and works of art concerning people and situations of the Greek Revolution of 1821. Also, in the same building, the Theodore Vlachodimitris library is housed but does not function due to lack of staff.
