Theodoros Maragos - Director
THE RESTLESS DIRECTOR
The Greek director and screenwriter Theodoros Maragos was born in 1944 at Filiatra. He started his career as a sketch artist - cartoonist in various magazines, while at the same time he studied painting. He has been involved in television, having directed the series "Obsessive Ideas" and "Beyond the Horizon". In 1998, he appeared in front of the camera in the short film, "Miracles on Alexandras Avenue" by Stergios Niziris. Through the constant conflict with status quo, Theodoros Maragos was loved by the public and films, such as "Learn my child letters", became one of the most important films in the history of Greek Cinema. The movie "Lifers" was never screened in big cinemas because, according to Maragos himself, it was "fought by the existing system". The entire film is available on YouTube, uploaded by the director himself, in an effort to communicate the film to the public.
Indicatively, we mention some of the most important films of Theodoros Maragos: In 1969, the short-animated film, "Tsouf", won the first prize at the Thessaloniki Film Festival, as well as the critics' special award. In 1971, he won, again, the first prize at the Thessaloniki Film Festival with the short, animated film, "Shhh!". In 1980, he won the first screenplay award at San Remo for his film, "Thanasis, Tighten your Belt more.." which was the second most commercial film of the year. In 1981, with the film, "Learn, my child,h letters", he won the first four awards at the Thessaloniki Festival. In 2005, he won the second prize for best documentary film at the Thessaloniki Film Festival with the documentary fiction and animation, "Black beehh ...". Finally, an important documentary of his, which was screened in 2018, is also the one under the title "He kept laughing". This documentary is dedicated to the actor and friend of Theodoros Maragos, Costas Tsakonas.
