With full formality and in an atmosphere of national emotion, Ano Dorio is preparing to honour the 205th anniversary of the uprising of the Dredes. The events will culminate on Tuesday, March 24th, 2026, paying tribute to the heroes of the region.
As part of the celebration, a general flag decoration of public and private buildings is scheduled from the morning of March 23 until the end of March 25, while festive illumination will take place during the evening hours.
Event Programme
The main day of celebration, March 24th, includes a series of ceremonies highlighting historical memory and tradition:
- 12:00 – Arrival of officials completed at the central square of Ano Dorio
- 12:05 – Opening of the ceremony in the courtyard of the Church of Saint Dimitrios
- 12:10 – 12:28 – Memorial service, followed by a reenactment of the historic oath of the Dredes and a prayer to the Virgin Mary
- 12:30 – Wreath laying by official guests
- 12:35 – Poetry recitations and awards for participating students
- 12:50 – Keynote speech by Alexandra Tasigiorgou
- 13:25 – National Anthem
- 13:30 – Traditional dances in the square by the Women’s Dance Association of Dorio, accompanied by the Municipal Philharmonic of the Municipality of Oichalia
The events will conclude at 13:45 with the closing of the ceremony and a reception at the Cultural Centre of the Soulimaioi Association.
