Filmhouse/New Cinema Club of Kalamata-TO BE OR NOT TO BE
Spread the word
During the German invasion of Poland, a group of actors used their disguise and acting skills to stop a traitor who intended to give the names of the resistance fighters to the enemy.
It is a masterpiece of classic Hollywood and a tremendous anti-war satire set during World War II, thanks to the guts and inexhaustible talent of Ernst Lubitsch. The handling of the balances is impressive, with the director lending an unseen narrative fluidity to the style of the film, which begins as a witty comedy, develops into a tense thriller and ends as a dark comedy that satirizes the absurdity of war. All this without missing the intelligent sarcasm about the antiquaries of the actors and their dreamy temperament.
In 1996, the US Library of Congress selected the film as culturally, historically, and aesthetically significant. In 2000, the American Film Institute listed it as one of the 50 greatest comedies of all time.
