The Municipality of Messina is organising, in Petros Themelis' memory, the man who, with knowledge, vision and passion, "resurrected" Ancient Messina, a leading cultural event: a symphonic concert in the restored Ancient Theatre with works by the internationally awarded Greek composer Pigi Lykoudis.
The programme consists of three sections:
"On the excavation of love and philosophy..." Fractures
Opinions and biographical moments of Petros Themelis, with the most exciting aspects of his life, the philosophy of excavation and the love of his beloved Messina. Grigoris Valtinos will narrate it. This first part will close with the presentation of an excerpt of a poem by Petros Themelis that was published in the newspaper "TO VIMA".
This will be followed by Pigi Lykoudi's symphonic work "Thirst in Mystras", written by Yiannis Ritsos and orchestrated by Yiannis Gikas, performed by baritone Spyros Kleissas, recited by Grigoris Valtinos.
With this work, the composer participated in the WORLD MUSIC COMPOSITION COMPETITION IN CALIFORNIA, USA (International Music Competition, California, USA) and received a silver medal (Global Music Awards 2023) among hundreds of entries from all over the world, adding to the world music becoming a Greek separate composite mosaic.
The essentially common characteristic of Petros Themelis and Yiannis Ritsos is that each of them praised Hellenic Beauty in their own way.
Next, harmoniously connected, is the cycle of songs in Nikiforos Vrettakos' poetry, which Eleni Petas will perform. The "Orchestra of Moments" performs with the composer at the piano. Music director Eleftherios Kalkanis.
The "father" of Ancient Messina, Petros Themelis, repeatedly stated in his interviews and leaflets that his desire, his aim, was for the monuments to find a new use after their restoration, to come to terms with everyday life. Realising his longing, we will be there in the space he resurrected.
