On Monday, February 12th, on the occasion of World Radio Day (February 13th), the documentary "Radio in the Attic" by Thanasis Papakostas will be screened.
Radio in Attic, (68'), 2015 by Thanasis Papakostas
The film follows the great adventure of Self-Managing Metadeftero, the most open web radio in Greece. Owner-free, commercial-free, Metadeftero, political and cultural intervention radio, broadcasts a 24-hour live programme of art shows, magazines and regular live concert broadcasts. Dozens of producers, journalists, directors, writers, actors, musicians, lawyers, freelancers, sound engineers, and members of collectives – all volunteers and unpaid – participate. The initial core of the team was formed at ERT after the blackout was imposed in 2013. Since June 2014, the station has been broadcasting from its own studios in the attic of the Music Corner record store in Athens. The documentary explores the historical roots of the Second and Third Programmes of public radio, records the present and traces the future of a collective, politicised and unguarded radio.
The film's director, Thanasis Papakostas, will be present at the screening via Skype, as well as Kalamata ERT journalist Maria Tomaras.
