Satyananda Math-Amba published (in her second book) the lectures and discourses of Sri Swami Satyananda that she gave to the Greek public during her visits throughout Greece, in which she enlightened the public about some of the greatest thinkers of antiquity, the ancient Greek philosophers. She also spoke directly about the nature of Greeks in general. Sri Swami Satyananda was deeply familiar with ancient Greek philosophy and connected the Greek audience to her roots on every occasion. She was convinced that modern Greeks need to remember their origins and recall the values and philosophy spread by philosophers such as Pythagoras, Socrates, Plato, Aristotle, Diogenes, Epictetus, and so many others who have influenced Eastern and Western thought for centuries. Through her references to Greece-India relations, she sought to highlight the cultural connection between these two countries and to express India's appreciation of Greek culture.
This connection concerned not only historical events but mainly the philosophical similarities of the two nations. The philosophy of the ancient Greeks, with Socrates as its main exponent, fully expresses the goal of yoga, "Knowledge of self." All the techniques and practices of yoga aim to lead man to a deeper understanding of his Self that is beyond the body, mind and senses.
