Kalamata Group of Friends of Greek History-The meaning of the Polytechnic and its instrumentalisation over time
Spread the word
The essence and meaning of the Polytechnic have been distorted to such an extent that it tends to change into something else. The Polytechnic has been under the illusion that it overthrew the Dictatorship for decades. Thousands of political executives built their careers on his backs. In recent decades, extreme groups have exploited it to highlight the days of the Polytechnic. From 1995 onwards, the memory of the Polytechnic uprising was identified with clashes with the Police. Since the murder of Al. Grigoropoulos and after, we are every year spectators of the same play, escalation of violence and its identification with specific groups. The almost daily ban on universities, the patrols of assault battalions, the coup appropriation of the Polytechnic, etc., is the result of anti-authoritarian activism. The traditional course of the Polytechnic that ends up at the American embassy becomes increasingly dull every year. A circle is closed.
The Kalamata Group of Friends of Greek History is organising an event entitled "The Meaning of the Polytechnic and Its Instrumentalisation Over Time".
The following will speak on the subject:
- Giorgos Plemenos, present at the events
- Soti Triantafillou, writer
Lawyer Dimitris Kaounis will moderate the discussion
The event will take place on Sunday, 17th November 2024, at 6 pm. in the event hall of the Rex Hotel.
