Filmhouse/New Cinema Club of Kalamata-THERE IS ALWAYS TOMORROW/C'E ANCORA DOMANI
Spread the word
The Italian film C'è Ancora Domani (There's Still Tomorrow), set in Rome just after World War II and shot entirely in black and white, opens with a man slapping his wife in the face as she wakes up and says "good morning" to him.
Actress Paola Cortelesi, who directed, wrote and starred in the film, wanted to make "a contemporary film set in the past" to help her young daughter understand Italian women's struggle for rights and dignity. As he tells the Financial Times, "Men still see women as theirs, a kind of property."
This neorealist gem, which moves from comedy to drama through the great tradition of Italian cinema, is shown for the first time in our country. It was the highest-grossing film in Italy in 2023 and one of the ten most commercial films of all time in the neighbouring country.
