Kalamata Equestrian Club

On July 26, 2004, a landmark date for Kalamata and its equestrian friends, the Kalamata Equestrian Club was founded by Nikolaos Drougas on an area of 20 acres in the area of Kordias on the West Beach of Kalamata. The Riding Academy is a modern riding school operating with European standards for riding lessons (children need to be at least seven years old), sports riding with Equestrian competitions and events, free riding, therapeutic riding, as well as private horse stables. 

The Academy's primary concern is the balanced nutrition and hygiene of the horses and the safe and qualified teaching of riding at all levels by its instructors. 

Nikos has been a horse lover since childhood. At 14, he became the owner of a horse named "Giorgos" and participated in equestrian competitions in Plati, Messenia. Since then, he has been involved in sport riding and has had many successes as a show jumping athlete. 

Nikos is the school's coach in sports and therapeutic riding. He is the man who takes on horsemen and women once they have chosen sport riding as their goal and after they have completed a course in basic horsemanship. It also takes on people with special abilities for therapeutic and Paralympic riding. 

Nikos also offers advice on the training of horses and the owners' training but also undertakes the training of horses at the Group's premises. 

The sports facilities of the Equestrian Club of Kalamata have: 

- 2 open-air racecourses (1 sport riding arena 30m x 50m and one auxiliary) 

- Indoor & outdoor stables 

- Saddlery & Horseshoe facilities 

- Warehouses for horse feed 

- Horse washing & care area 

- 20 pandok (20 X 20) 

- Nursing home for old horses 

The equestrian group's clubhouse offers its friends an easy and comfortable way to watch training sessions or competitions in winter or summer. Its spaces can also be booked for various events. The organised meeting place at the equestrian club has a reception area with a fireplace, a Cafeteria-Snack bar, a secretary's Office, and a large veranda for watching matches and hosting events. 

In the stable facilities of the Group, the hygiene of the space, as well as the quality of care provided to the horses for their healthy and safe living, are their primary concern.

In the case of transportation, the horses are transported by experienced and specialised personnel in an absolutely safe environment. The commercial van used for transportation meets the safety rules based on the European Union specifications and runs itineraries for sports and activities only. 

After a journey of distinctions and successes, on an area of 2 acres for each individual, the hosted elderly horses enjoy the special care of the staff in a specially designed area worthy of their course.
