Let's Go for a Walk-Meet the Hagiographies of the Holy Temple of the Brigades of Kalamata
Faithful to its appointment every year, the "Let's go for a walk" Group is organising a different tour of the hagiography-painting of the Temple of the Taxiarches in Kalamata on Sunday, November 10th, 2024, at 11 am.
Artist Dimitris Iliopoulos will guide and mediate the "conversation" about the Church's iconography and painting.
The church iconography was carried out by Hagiographer Dimitrios Kentakas, one of the greatest deacons of the liturgical art of iconography in the 20th century and a faithful follower of the church iconographic order, during the Archpriesthood of the Metropolitan of Messenia Chrysostomos Themelis and with the financial contribution of the faithful.
In 1989, the devastating earthquakes "wounded" the Temple and significantly damaged its masonry, but with the faithful people's financial contribution, Dimitris Kentakas repaired the hagiographies.
The wood-carved iconostasis is a real jewel, and the wood-carved shrines, the majestic chandeliers and the general furnishings create a sacred grandeur and admiration.
