The stone-built village of Kalyves is located on top of a hill, just 4 kilometres from Prosilio, in the direction of Kardamyli. According to tradition, the first houses of the village were built in the 17th century, while the village’s founder was Katsiris of Chora Androuvitsa.
In the village, visitors can see the church of Agios Mamas, which was built in 1750. The church belongs to the Katsiris family, while one of the descendants, Vassilis Katsiris, renovated it in 1824 with icons that he brought from Odessa, Russia. In the village, there is also the Zoodochos Pigi temple and the stone-built church of Ypapanti.
From Kalyves, one can easily visit the gorge of Vyros (with a total length of 19 kilometres), where the ruined Lykakis Monastery is located, as well as the Monastery of Sotiras (the Savior), which was built in the 14th century.
