IDMEN
An Exhibition of Greek and International Artists at Gallery A49, in Kalamata.
An Exhibition of Greek and International Artists at Gallery A49, in Kalamata.
The exhibition is a collaborative project with the Archaeological Museum of Patras.
The purpose of this joint project is to find ways of approaching some of the significant themes of antiquity in the Museum's permanent collection and to relate them to the present. In other words, the exhibition intends to create a thought-provoking dialogue between the past and the present.
In addition, the artists could examine the concept of museums and their artefacts as institutions in the broader context.
The permanent collection provides us with a wide spectrum of themes: life, emporium, sea-trade market, welfare, agriculture, environmental issues, war, athletics, theatre and public life, Roman architecture and ancient ceremonies or even the concept of museums and their artefacts.
The IDMEN concept illustrated art's function as described in the Theogonia of Isiodos (fragment 25 of Hesiod's Theogony). It was initially Spyros Fengos' idea, and the use of IΔΜΕΝ for both the title and the concept of the exhibition is a tribute to him.
