Filmhouse/New Kalamata Cinema Club-Rumble Fish
Spread the word
In Tulsa, Oklahoma, young Rusty James (Matt Dillon in a young Brando style) tries to discover his identity by taking refuge in a life of violence and conflict. Rusty is constantly in the shadow of his legendary brother, Motorcycle Boy (a distasteful Mickey Rourke in the role of a lifetime), a one-time gang leader who returns after years to reconcile with his lost father (Dennis Hopper).
Coppola, now experienced, directs with an unparalleled style, a noir aesthetic (a total contrast black and white photograph) with "notes" taken from the French New Wave and German Expressionism, making the film completely timeless. A special mention should also be given to the innovative, entirely appropriate soundtrack by Stewart Copeland, drummer of the Police. Using Susan Hinton's novel as a springboard, the great creator created a "modern, ancient tragedy", an elegy on the end of the illusions of the American (and not only) youth.
The film won two awards at the San Sebastián Film Festival and was nominated for a Golden Globe for its music.
