LET'S GO FOR A WALK-Highlighting Vaulted Tombs
Spread the word
Tragana is a settlement south of Marathopoli and Chora. It was a prehistoric settlement of the Mycenaean era, and two vaulted tombs were excavated there. Archaeologists A. Skia and K. Kourouniotis carried out the first investigations in the area from 1909 to 1912, while S. Marinatos (1950s) carried out a systematic excavation later. G. Korres conducted additional research during the 1970s and 1980s.
Fragmentary remains of the Mycenaean settlement to which the tombs belonged were found in various parts of the modern village of Tragana. Tragana is an important prehistoric site with significant residential remains, vaulted tombs, and numerous and rich movable finds.
The "go for a walk" group is organising a visit to the vaulted tombs of Tragana on Sunday, October 6th, 2024
