Fifa Natural Cultivation Estate is a Novalis Cultura, urban, educational and productive farm of natural and traditional cultivation created for developing Cultivation culture. With zero ecological footprints, it works exclusively with compost and conventional seeds for the development of the culture of cultivation.
Objectives and actions:
It is an innovative, educational, environmental project, with no precedent in all of Messenia, with dozens of school visits from our region and those who have passed through the farm and participated in the workshops, learned how to compost, created their own gardens and their own little seed banks. There are many collaborations with teachers as well as teachers' associations, dozens of invitations from associations, relevant research centres, even from the University of the Aegean, the University of Peloponnese and also from the Hellenic Society for Environment and Culture for presentations of the Community Composting Network, the Seed Bank and the Farm's educational programmes.
The development of the unique in our region and open to the world, Seed Bank of Traditional varieties of plants now lists over 300 species. Anyone interested can purchase a small number of seeds, which, through successive training, learns to cultivate, reproduce self-sufficiently and feedback the open seed bank as one of its seed-custodian members. Traditional seeds contribute to the protection and expansion of agricultural biodiversity. Their absence means the loss of the genetic basis of these species, which impacts evolution and the possibility of natural selection.
They organise local seed exchanges, creative cultivation workshops, home crafts, and creative reuse seminars.
In other words, their company grows, and their work becomes more demanding and challenging.
IDEA Re: Think Project
"A STUDY ON RECYCLING, REUSE AND SELF-MANAGEMENT OF OUR WASTE, BASED ON THE FOLLOWING QUESTIONS: What do we consider usable material and what useless? How can we create through what we find "thrown" in front of us? How can we find the hidden beauty in industrial materials or, more broadly, in the waste materials around us? How can we transform from consumers to creators? How can we ultimately live and create on the basis of our own energy, pursuing self-sufficiency in our lives? How can we live in harmonious and sustainable harmony with our natural environment?
"Re: Think Working Group"
TEAM Re: Think works based on the principles of equal cooperation and conscious voluntary contribution to the project. The group started its work as activists, following the initiative of educator and visual artist Myrto Fifa, with the support of the Fifa Farm. In contrast, since 2014, the group has chosen the legal form that they consider best serves their principles and facilitates their action. It is that of a "Non-profit-Social Cooperative Enterprise".
HISTORICAL RETHINK PROJECT: Composters in action
A neighbourhood composting programme that has been implemented in Kalamata for three years. The idea of composting is an old practice in our country as it is part of our agricultural culture. The concept of neighbourhood composting is an innovation influenced by elements of our rural culture (self-management, collectivity) but tries to turn the self-management of our organic waste into an urban habit and condition through collective practices.
