The Fallen Dockworkers Memorial of Kalamata

The Monument dedicated to the Fallen Dockworkers of Kalamata is located in the city's port and is the work of Messenian sculptor Christos Riganas. It is dedicated to the memory of those who heroically fell on May 9th, 1934, defending their labour rights. According to the "Kalamata Port Workers," initially, five dock workers and then two residents of the city lost their lives in the army fire.
The names of the four dock workers are written on the marble monument: Vasilios Gialatsinos, Ioannis Kolitsidakis, Antonios Maragoudakis and Andreas Spalas.
