Fallen Firefighters Memorial

The Fallen Firefighters Memorial is located at 97 Aristomenous Street, in Diikitirio Square, across from the Kalamata Labour Centre. The monument was designed by Kalamatian sculptor Konstantinos E. Doussis (the cost of which was taken over by the Municipality of Kalamata), and its unveiling took place on November 11th, 2018. On the monument, a passage from the "Epitaph of Pericles" by ancient Athenian historian Thucydides is written:
"TO PEOPLE WHO RESPECT
AND AWARD
VIRTUE,
THERE, THEY APPEAR
EXCELLENT CITIZENS".
Every year, on November 12th, a memorial service is held at the site in honour of the firefighters of the Fire Brigade who fell on duty or lost their abilities.
