The Messenian Macedonian Warriors Monument

The Messenian Macedonian Warriors Monument is on Psaron Street, in front of the Prefecture building (the old Governor's Office). It is a work of sculptor Efthymios Kalevras (1929-2011), a donation from the "Association of North Helladites of Messenia." The monument was inaugurated on May 6th, 2001. It is dedicated to the memory of the Messenians who participated in the Macedonian fight for liberation, many of whom even gave their lives.
The brass statuette represents a Macedonian warrior dressed in a classic, traditional uniform. He carries a weapon on his back and a knife at his waist. Right in front of the podium, a large marble slab with the names of the Messenian Macedonian fighters is displayed.
