Night ascent to the top of Prophet Ilias on Mount Taygetos at 2,407 m from the Sparta side and the Taygetos Refuge.
On the weekend of July 13th and 14th, 2024, the members and friends of the Kalamata Hikers and Mountaineers Association "Efklis" will climb on Mount Taygetos to the top at 2,407 m. altitude, to the chapel of Prophet Ilias, which has stood proudly there since the end of the 19th century.
''The Pyramid''
__ They will be able to admire and photograph the "Pyramid Phenomenon" and the rare plants and aromatic herbs of Taygetus.
At 6:30 a.m., all visitors go to the side of the peak facing Messenia to see the "Pyramid Effect."
__ Prophet Elias is a pyramid-shaped peak, and at sunrise, a pyramid shadow appears across the Messenian Gulf. Fantastic!!
__ Mountaineering night route to the top from the Sparta side and the Taygetos Refuge. Head torch and climbing gear are required.
__ The team will be led to the top by an experienced climber of the club.
__ Departure from Kalamata at 4:00 p.m. of Saturday from the offices of S.P.O.K. "Efklis". Transportation will be done in the cars of the Association's members
__ Cost of participation: 10 euros (club members) and 15 euros (non-club members).
__ Overnight stay on Saturday night: Extra Cost in tents (5 euros per person) outside the refuge.
If a booking in the shelter is cancelled, we will be informed from the previous day.
CONDITIONS: Participants must be members of our Association.
Otherwise, non-members will sign a form of the Association that they are healthy and participate at their own risk.
Before departing, the climbers will be informed on Wednesday (July 10th, 2024).
