On Thursday, July 27th (at 9:30 p.m.), the film "The City of Fear" ("La cite de la peur") will be screened by the "Filmhouse/New Cinema Club of Kalamata".
A second-rate thriller is set to be shown at the Cannes Film Festival. Still, the film screenings are accompanied by the murder of the respective projectionist by a mysterious man with a hammer and sickle, just like in the film. The press representative takes advantage of the poor publicity of the poorly made film by bringing the film's star to Cannes to find the killer.
"La cité de la peur" is a 1994 French comedy that marks the entry of the trio Les Nuls (Chabat, Farrugia, Lauby) into cinema. Directed by Alain Berbérian, the film is a clever combination of placements and parodies referring to the cinema and culture of its time, combining French humour with self-deprecation. The unassuming approach of the protagonists and the explosive chemistry they develop with each other provides endless laughs with the funny situations, puns and the characters' unexpected blunders.
Although "La cité de la peur" was not particularly successful at the box office and was not awarded any known prize, it has won a special place in the hearts of viewers and has become a small cult film treasure, which has a place among the best French comedies of all times.
