Monument to the Greek Fighter of 1821
The Monument to the Greek Fighter of 1821 dominates the park of Nedontos, at the junction of Nedontos and 23rd Martiou streets. The Monument (courtesy of Iorlandis Papadopoulou-Rolshausen) was designed by acclaimed sculptor Nikos Georgiou and unveiled in March 2017.
The artistic bilateral composition (4 metres high) depicts the beginning of the Revolution from the historical city of Kalamata, glorifying the glorious past that succeeds and remains unchanged in the present. Specifically, it represents Greece's crowning, with a laurel wreath, the Greek fighter of 1821, and consists of a complex of statues with elaborate details made of Pentelic marble.
