We are again ready to experience the unrepeatable beauty of the unique female river, the crossing of Neda. The effort started 32 years ago together with people from the villages of the mountainous massif Neda, Ambeliona, Syrizo, etc. and managed to make widely known the feminine river of legends, traditions, history and unrepeatable natural beauty, which, no matter how many times you cross it, always compensates you and unites people of different geographical and cultural backgrounds.
With Official Gazette 3019/Issue B/8.05.2023, the area that includes part of the canyon, the Stomio cave and the Neda River waterfalls was classified as a protected landscape and a protected natural formation.
The Municipality of Trifylia, the Local Community of Avlona, the "REA" Avlona Women's Association, the Association of Avlona people of Trifylia, nature-loving clubs, nature admirers, and young Avlona people are organising a walk along NEDA on SATURDAY, July 27th, 2024, under the name "SOTIRIS LAMPROPOULOS." This name was established in memory of the last President of the Community.
Come and live a memorable experience on the river, where mythology intertwines with history and the unique natural environment. When Rhea gave birth to Zeus to protect him from her husband Cronus, she gave him to the nymph Neda, the goddess of the waters. She nursed the infant together with the nymphs Theisoa and Agno, bathing and washing it in the headland at Lycaeo, which later became the legendary river named after her.
Hikers from almost all over Greece gather in the river NEDA and spend a magical day enjoying the unique miracle of nature.
The gorge, the stone bridges, the impressive waterfalls, the mouth, and the unique tunnel are waiting for us!!! This year, the hikers will shout Yiannis Christopoulos' name loudly in the gorge and dedicate the hiking route to the late educator, pioneer, ardent supporter, animator and guide of the event, who passed away recently. The Municipality of Trifylia will award an honorary plaque to his family.
