The picturesque, semi-mountainous village of Petrovouni is built at an altitude of 180 metres and is only 2 kilometres from Kardamyli. From the village, with only 15 inhabitants, visitors can enjoy the fantastic view of almost the entire Messenian gulf.
In Petrovouni is the Monastery of Panagia Faneromeni, which is part of the Holy Sepulchre. The monastery dated back to the 17th-18th century and was built based on the layout of all the monasteries of the captaincy of Androuvista. The monastery's church is the village's catholicon and celebrates the day of Zoodochos Pigi.
Sotirianika is across from Petrovouni, where the Karaveli Abbey, built by Othon’s decree, is located. The building complex of the monastery stands out for its defensive features, such as the fortified precinct and the war cage ("ondas") with the two battlements.
