"Bread-Wine-Olive" Festival
The "Bread-Wine-Olive Oil" Festival occurred for the first time in 2012. Since then, it has been held yearly in the Municipal Railway Park in Kalamata, with extensive participation of people.
The institution aims to promote quality agri-food products, folk culture and traditions. Through this great rural celebration, the culture of our people emerges, which is "fermented" with the three main elements of the Mediterranean diet: bread, wine and oil.
Throughout the celebration, visitors have the opportunity to watch the representation of agricultural tasks that have disappeared, as well as the processing of farm products. In particular, the representation of ploughing and sowing, threshing, grinding wheat in a hand mill, weaving on a traditional loom, the harvest, as well as the preparation of tsipouro and basket-kofa weaving are typical.
The celebration is framed by the exhibition of agricultural and local products, as well as several cultural and artistic events, such as traditional dances, a photography exhibition, painting for children, etc. Finally, visitors have the opportunity to try handmade, salty and sweet dishes, such as trachanas, noodles, lalaggides, tiganopsoma, "petoules" (small fried pancakes), diples and moustalevria.
