Kalamata Mountaineering Association-Excursion to Agrafa
The Kalamata Mountaineering Club will spend the three-day holiday of Ash Monday in the breathtaking region of Agrafa.
The Agrafa Mountains are considered one of the most important mountaineering destinations in Greece. The mountainous terrain of the area is so vast and rugged that some describe it as the Himalayas of Greece. In fact, this is also how the region got its name. Because it was so inaccessible, with countless steep peaks and deep ravines, it was never properly recorded during Ottoman rule. The area was quite literally “unwritten” on the map.
