Kalamata "Orfeus" Music Club - Cultural Association
The Kalamata "Orfeus" Music Club was founded in December 1957. Since then, it has had continuous and brilliant participation in choral and cultural events, not only in Kalamata but also in Greece and abroad. The purpose of the music group is to promote the cultural level of our country, as well as the spread of choral music.
"Orpheus" works as a mixed four-part choir, and the repertoire includes pre-classical and classical composers, Greek operettas, religious music, cantatas, traditional and folk songs, Negro spirituals, etc.
The first choir concert was given on March 31st, 1957, with 12 choral works by Greek and foreign composers (under the direction of conductor Nikos Koutsomaniotis). In 1959, it won the Second Prize in the Panhellenic choir competition at the Panathinaikos Stadium in Athens.
